Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped cherries. Add chopped nuts if desired.
- Shape the Cookies: Drop rounded tablespoons of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Top each cookie with a whole cherry and a few extra chocolate chips if desired.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
