Description

A deliciously glazed baked ham recipe featuring pineapple and a blend of sweet and savory flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-10 pound) fully cooked bone-in ham
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 can (20 ounces) pineapple slices, drained
  • Whole cloves
  • Maraschino cherries (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Prepare the Ham: Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern and insert whole cloves into the intersections of each square.
  3. Make the Glaze: In a saucepan, combine pineapple juice, brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, ginger, cinnamon, and ground cloves. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly.
  4. Glaze the Ham: Place the ham in a roasting pan. Brush the ham with a layer of the glaze. Arrange pineapple slices over the ham, securing them with toothpicks if necessary. Optionally, place maraschino cherries in the center of each pineapple slice.
  5. Bake the Ham: Transfer the ham to the oven and bake for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, basting with the glaze every 30 minutes. Bake until the ham is heated through and the exterior is caramelized and golden brown.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the ham to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Alternative Sweeteners: Maple syrup can be used as a substitute for honey for a different flavor.
  • Spice Variation: Adding a pinch of cayenne pepper can give a slight heat to the glaze.
  • Leftovers: Use leftover ham slices for sandwiches or chop them for salads and casseroles.
