Description

A delicious homemade cinnamon raisin bread perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast:
In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, a teaspoon of sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare Dough:
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and the egg. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add raisins during the kneading process to evenly distribute them.
  4. First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  5. Shape the Bread:
Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle (about 9×14 inches). Sprinkle the cinnamon and brown sugar evenly over the dough. Roll up the dough tightly from the shortest end, pinching the seam to seal.
  6. Second Rise:
Place the rolled dough into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let it rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  7. Bake the Bread:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. If the bread is browning too quickly, cover it with aluminum foil halfway through.
  8. Cool and Serve:
Remove the bread from the oven and brush the top with melted butter for a soft crust. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Customize by adding nuts such as walnuts or pecans for extra texture.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar or add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
