- 1/2 cup buttermilk

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 egg
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar

- Red sprinkles or crumbs for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, oil, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
- Combine All Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined. Stir in the egg.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cream Mixture: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
- Add Sugar & Flavor: Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Cut & Layer: Once the cake is cooled, cut it into small squares. Slice each square in half horizontally.
- Fill & Frost: Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting between the cake layers and on top.
- Garnish: Sprinkle red sprinkles or crumbs on top for decoration.
